CHEMISTRY REQUIREMENTS

The following curriculum was designed for students who wish to pursue a career in chemistry or allied fields.  The requirements for this degree are:

Students majoring in any chemistry program must also complete the following departmental requirements:

        One year of Calculus (MTH 121/122 or MTH 115/116)
        One year of Physics (PHY 107/108 or PHY 110/201)


The Chemistry Department also offers an American Chemical Society accredited degree. Students who want to satisfy accreditation requirements of the American Chemical Society are required to also take:

        CHM 464 Physical Chemistry Laboratory II (1 Hr)
        CHM 510 Advanced Inorganic Chemistry Laboratory (1 Hr)
        CHM 551 Advanced Organic Chemistry (3 Hrs)
        CHM 553 Qualitative Organic Chemistry (4 Hrs)

Exceptions:     Students who have demonstrated competency in required courses by high school study, Advanced Placement examinations or CLEP examinations should consult their advisor for appropriate modifications of this course sequence.

 

 

BIOCHEMISTRY REQUIREMENTS

This interdepartmental program is jointly sponsored by the Departments of Chemistry and Biology. 

The objective of the program is to provide the student with the appropriate background for employment in the field of biochemistry or for admission to graduate or medical school.

Students majoring in Biochemistry must also complete the following requirements:

            • One year of calculus (MTH 121/122 or MTH 115/116)
            • One year of physics (PHY 107/108 or PHY 110/201) 4 hrs)     

Biochemistry majors are strongly encouraged to engage in research. Students may conduct research for credit (CHM 491) under the supervision of Bradley Chemistry faculty, they may participate in summer research programs at other universities, and they may work at government or industry laboratories.

 

 

CHEMISTRY PREMEDICINE REQUIREMENTS

Students interested in pursuing additional studies beyond the bachelor's degree in medicine, dentistry,optometry,pharmacy, veterinary medicine, etc. may choose to follow the Chemistry-Premedicine course of study. Students may major in Chemistry-Premedicine by completing the following courses.
